Becoming an Industrial Maintenance Technician

There are several different ways you can go about moving towards this career, but the first thing you will need for each track is a high school diploma or general equivalency degree or a GED. The important part of the diploma is the development of good skills in mathematics, the ability to communicate well and have a good background in science.

Once you have your diploma, you can enroll in a four-year college, get a degree, or apply for a position in a company where you can learn from others in the business and work your way toward the apprenticeship program.

When you have secured an internship as an industrial maintenance technician, you are guided and supervised by a licensed technician for a certain period of time, which could be anywhere within 1 to 5 years. It will teach you all the skills you need to know so that you can become an expert in your field. While you are in an apprenticeship program, you will be paid as well.
